This Privacy Policy explains how the Watar mobile application ("Watar", "the app", "we", "us") and the watarapp.com website handle information when you use them. Watar is built to work with as little data as possible, and this policy describes exactly what is (and is not) collected.

What we don't collect

Watar has no sign-up, no account, and no user profile. We don't ask for your name, email address, or phone number, and we don't know who you are. We don't sell your data, and we don't operate any server that receives it.

Microphone access — the app

Watar uses your device's microphone to detect the pitch of the string you're tuning. This happens entirely on your device, in real time, purely to calculate a note name and a number of cents. No audio is ever recorded to a file, saved, or transmitted anywhere — the moment you stop playing, that instant of sound is gone.

Microphone access — the website's online tuner

The free tuner on this website (on the Online Tuner, Custom Tuning, and individual instrument pages) also uses your microphone, in exactly the same way: audio is analyzed live in your browser using the Web Audio API to detect pitch, and nothing is recorded, saved, or sent to any server. Closing the tab or tapping "Stop listening" immediately releases the microphone. Your browser will ask for microphone permission before the tuner can listen; you can revoke that permission at any time in your browser's site settings.

Settings stored on your device

A small set of preferences lives in local storage on your device only, so the app remembers them between launches:

• Your chosen language and A4 reference pitch
• Whether haptics are turned on
• Whether you've purchased Remove Ads

None of this leaves your device unless you delete the app or clear its storage yourself.

Advertising & App Tracking Transparency

Free use of Watar is supported by ads served through Google AdMob. AdMob can use device identifiers (such as the Android Advertising ID) to show and measure ads. On iOS, Watar asks for your App Tracking Transparency permission before any tracking-capable ad request is made — you'll see Apple's own system prompt the first time you open the app. If you decline, or on Android, you still see ads, just not ones based on cross-app tracking.

Google's own policies govern what AdMob does with that data: see Google's Privacy Policy and how Google uses advertising data.

You can change your choice at any time — on iOS in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, or on Android in Settings → Google → Ads.

In-app purchases

The one-time "Remove Ads" purchase is handled entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play, using their standard in-app purchase systems. Watar never sees or stores your payment details — your card number, billing address, or Apple/Google account aren't visible to us at any point.

Children's privacy

Watar isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age — there's simply no account or profile to collect it into.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Watar after a change means you accept the updated policy.
