Custom Instrument Tuning
Playing something with a non-standard tuning, an unusual instrument, or an open/altered tuning? Use the chromatic tuner below — it reads any note, not just a preset list.
Chromatic tuner
Your microphone audio is analyzed live in your browser using the Web Audio API and is never recorded, saved, or sent anywhere — the same on-device-only approach the Watar app itself uses. Requires a secure (https) connection; works in current Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge.
This tuner identifies whatever note you play and shows how in-tune it is — useful for any custom string set, dulcimer, lap steel, open tuning, or an instrument not listed on this site.
Why a custom tuning slot matters
Not every player uses standard tuning. Open tunings (DADGAD, Open G, Open D), down-tuned metal rigs, non-Western instruments with regional variants, and homemade or unusual instruments all need a tuner that doesn't assume one fixed set of strings.
The Watar app includes a dedicated custom slot: name each string, set its target note, and the app remembers it alongside your other presets — no need to re-enter it every session.
