Oud Tuner
A dedicated oud tuner for the Arabic tuning — free, in your browser. The Watar app also covers Turkish/Bolahenk, Iraqi, and Egyptian regional tunings.
Tune your oud online
Your microphone audio is analyzed live in your browser using the Web Audio API and is never recorded, saved, or sent anywhere — the same on-device-only approach the Watar app itself uses. Requires a secure (https) connection; works in current Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge.

| String | Note | Frequency |

| 2 | F2 | 87.31 Hz |
| 3 | A2 | 110.00 Hz |

● Oud courses are usually tuned in pairs (unison or octave) — tune each string of a course separately for the cleanest sound.
● Regional tunings differ: Turkish oud is often tuned a step or two higher than Arabic oud. Pick the one matching your teacher or ensemble.
● Gut or nylon strings settle slowly — expect to retune several times over the first week on a new set.
Frequently asked questions
- What is Arabic oud tuning?
- The common modern Arabic oud tuning, low to high, is C2 F2 A2 D3 G3 C4. It's the default most teaching materials and recordings assume unless a regional variant is specified.
- How is Turkish oud tuning different?
- Turkish (Bolahenk) oud is typically tuned a whole step or more higher than Arabic tuning. The Watar app includes Turkish/Bolahenk, Iraqi, and Egyptian presets alongside Arabic — the browser tuner here follows Arabic tuning.
- Can a phone microphone pick up oud strings accurately?
- Yes for the fundamental pitch of plucked courses, though a quiet room helps — the oud's resonant body and sympathetic strings can add overtones that occasionally confuse pitch detection on very noisy recordings.
